Insulation Before & After in Ventura, CA

Photos tell the truth faster than any brochure. In Ventura, where June gloom gives way to 80-degree autumns, the difference between a properly insulated attic and a neglected one shows up in monthly bills, bedroom comfort, and how often the AC runs. Below are real project snapshots from our crews. Once our photo library is loaded, you’ll see exactly what we see from the hatch.

Attic Insulation Removal & Replacement in Midtown Ventura

[Photo placeholder: Before – thin, settled fiberglass batts between attic joists, bare drywall visible in corners]
Midtown attic before: R-11 fiberglass, blown thin and compressed over 20 years.
[Photo placeholder: After – fresh Owens Corning blown-in fiberglass, evenly distributed to R-38 depth markers]
Same attic after: R-38 coverage, baffles installed, bathroom fan re-ducted.

The homeowner in Midtown called because the upstairs bedroom hit 84 degrees by noon every July. Our crew found original R-11 batts that had settled to maybe R-5 in spots, plus a bathroom exhaust fan venting directly into the attic. We removed the old material, air-sealed the top plates, re-ducted the fan, and blew Owens Corning fiberglass to R-38 depth. The bedroom now holds at 76 on the same afternoons, and the humidity smell in the hallway is gone.

Spray Foam Rim Joist Sealing in East Ventura

[Photo placeholder: Before – open rim joist cavities with visible gaps and daylight at the sill plate]
East Ventura rim joist before: gaps where the foundation meets the framing, cold air pouring in.
[Photo placeholder: After – Demilec closed-cell spray foam filling each cavity, trimmed flush to the framing]
After: Demilec spray foam sealed every cavity, including the corners where fiberglass never fit.

This 1960s ranch had a crawl space full of cold, damp air that made the living room floor feel like a refrigerator every winter morning. We identified the rim joist as the main entry point, which is typical for Ventura homes of that era. Our crew foamed every cavity with Demilec closed-cell, sealing the sill plate and cutting the draft at its source. The homeowner noticed the floor was warmer within a week, and the dust that used to settle on the baseboards stopped appearing.

Pet-Safe Attic Upgrade in the Pierpont Neighborhood

[Photo placeholder: Before – old fiberglass batts with rodent damage and torn kraft facing]
Pierpont attic before: rodent-tunneled R-19 batts, heavily soiled kraft facing.
[Photo placeholder: After – fresh Rockwool batts, cleanly fitted between joists, no facing]
After: Rockwool batts, unfaced, dense and clean against the drywall below.

This family had two indoor cats and a dog that insists on following everyone upstairs. The old insulation had been through a roof leak and a squirrel visit, and the homeowner was worried about allergens and what might be living in the fibers. We removed everything, vacuumed the attic floor, and installed Rockwool batts, which resist moisture and mold and are a friendlier choice for homes with pets. The attic went from a place nobody wanted to open to a clean, quiet layer over the whole upstairs.

Blown-In Upgrade Over a Garage in Saticoy

[Photo placeholder: Before – bare garage ceiling joists with no insulation, recessed can lights exposed]
Saticoy garage ceiling before: nothing between the attic space above and the garage below.
[Photo placeholder: After – GreenFiber cellulose settled evenly, depth markers visible from the hatch]
After: GreenFiber cellulose at R-30, leveled with the joist tops.

The homeowner used this garage as a workshop and had given up on working out there between June and October. The attic above it had never been insulated, so the garage absorbed full sun through the roof and radiated heat onto every tool in the room. We blew GreenFiber cellulose to R-30, which also quieted the room enough that the homeowner now hears the radio over the table saw. His words, not ours.

Knauf Batts in the Oxnard Shores-adjacent Flats

[Photo placeholder: Before – paper-faced batts falling out from between floor joists in a pier-and-beam crawl space]
Before: failed batts dangling below a bedroom floor, no support wire, no seal.
[Photo placeholder: After – Knauf unfaced batts secured with support rods, snug against the subfloor]
After: Knauf unfaced batts, tight against the subfloor and held with rods.

Coastal Ventura homes on piers have a different set of problems, and this one had insulation that was installed upside down and had fallen out of half the bays. The bedroom above stayed cold and the floor had a persistent draft. Our crew removed the failed material, checked for moisture under the subfloor, and installed Knauf unfaced batts held in place with support rods so they won’t sag. The bedroom warmed up and the floor no longer feels like walking on a dock in January.

Vaulted Ceiling Spray Foam in the Ventura Hills

[Photo placeholder: Before – vaulted ceiling cavity open during construction, no insulation, visible roof decking]
Before: open vaulted ceiling, roof decking exposed, no thermal barrier at all.
[Photo placeholder: After – Icynene open-cell foam filling the cavity, a clean white surface under the future drywall]
After: Icynene open-cell foam, full cavity depth, ready for drywall.

This homeowner was mid-renovation when the original insulation contractor walked off the job. They called us on a Wednesday; we were in the ceiling cavity on Friday. We applied Icynene open-cell to the full vault, including the tricky corners where flat batts leave gaps. The foam also air-seals as it cures, so the room now needs less conditioning from day one. The drywall crew told the homeowner it was the cleanest cavity they had ever covered.
